The Story behind...
Cake It Yourself began with a cake — and a quiet, determined need to feel whole again.
When Shlomit became a mother, she found herself, like so many others, caught in the fog of postpartum depression. In the middle of sleepless nights, shifting identity, and emotional overwhelm, she felt a spark of purpose when she decided to bake a birthday cake for her baby. The result was messy, imperfect — but profoundly meaningful. That single act of creation became a turning point.
What started as a one-time effort grew into a deeply personal practice. As Shlomit explored new styles, techniques, and textures, she discovered that cake decorating wasn’t just a hobby — it was therapy. It gave her agency, joy, and a sense of self at a time when both felt far away. The kitchen became her studio, her safe space. And with every swirl of icing, she began to reconnect with herself.
The idea for Cake It Yourself was born out of this healing. Shlomit imagined kits that could help others — not just to bake, but to breathe. To slow down, play, and feel empowered again.
Not long after, she crossed paths with Neja — a fellow mother, entrepreneur, and creative soul who understood this journey all too well. Neja had also experienced the weight of postpartum depression, and knew firsthand how powerful it is to have something — anything — that grounds you and reminds you of your strength.
After leading a global career in supply chain, operations, and business founding, Neja pivoted into the UK charity sector to reconnect with purpose. But as meaningful as that work was, she felt called to build something new: a venture that combined heart and structure, creativity and healing. When Shlomit shared her vision, Neja knew she had found it.
Together, they built Cake It Yourself: a brand that exists to bring beauty, play, and power back into people’s hands — literally. Their DIY cake kits are designed not just for baking, but for grounding. For reconnecting with joy. For celebrating the small wins that often go unseen.
Both Shlomit and Neja believe that everyone deserves tools to help them cope with the pressures of modern life. Not just to manage, but to thrive. Cake It Yourself is their offering to that vision — one that invites you to create, to connect, and to reclaim your joy.
