The Story Behind Cake It Yourself
Cake It Yourself began with a cake — and a quiet, determined need to feel whole again.
When Shlomit became a mother, she found herself, like many new parents, facing the emotional fog of postpartum depression. In the middle of sleepless nights, shifting identity, and overwhelming emotions, she decided to bake a birthday cake for her baby. The cake was messy, imperfect, and far from professional — but the act of creating it felt powerful.
That moment became a turning point.
What started as a single cake slowly grew into a personal ritual. As Shlomit explored new decorating styles, techniques, and designs, she discovered that cake decorating was more than just a hobby. It became a form of creative therapy — a way to regain control, reconnect with herself, and experience small moments of joy during a difficult period.
The kitchen became a quiet studio where creativity replaced pressure. With every swirl of icing and every finished cake, confidence slowly returned.
Over time, the idea for Cake It Yourself began to take shape. Shlomit imagined a brand that could help others experience the same sense of empowerment and creativity. She envisioned DIY cake kits that would make cake decorating accessible for everyone — not just experienced bakers, but parents, children, and beginners who simply want to create something beautiful together.
Not long after, she crossed paths with Neja — a fellow mother, entrepreneur, and creative thinker who immediately connected with the vision.
Neja had also experienced postpartum depression and understood the importance of finding grounding activities during challenging times. After building an international career in supply chain design, strategic operations, and business development, she had spent years creating complex global systems. Eventually, she transitioned into the charity sector, seeking work that felt more connected to purpose.
But the idea of building something meaningful — something that blended creativity, structure, and emotional impact — kept calling her back.
When Shlomit shared the vision for Cake It Yourself, Neja recognized the potential immediately. Together, they combined creativity, operational expertise, and a shared belief that small creative moments can make a big difference in people’s lives.
That collaboration became the foundation of Cake It Yourself.
